One of those days

It's been one of those days. I knew it was going to be one of those days as soon as I got up this morning. It was another struggle getting up this morning, with very limited movement in my lower back. I slept with a pillow stuffed under my hips to try and get some comfort which helped a little. It's my plan to invest in one of those long body pillows, see if that will help. It was also very cold this morning. 1°C according to my car thermometer this morning. My joints don't like the cold and I was significantly stiffer than usual this morning, waddling my way to the bus this morning.

I commute to work on the bus each morning where I get off at the train station in Dundee. It's about a 10 minute to my office on the far end of campus. Occasionally (and as I get stiffer, it's becoming more often), I get the 73 bus along half way along Perth Road which reduces the 10 minute walk to a 2 minute one and a 2 minute bus trip. This morning the bus was due in 3 minutes and I was in no mood for walking. I could practically see the bus coming when my guts decided to play up.

I had horrible cramps in my abdomen. I should have paid attention to the warning signs in the morning but I foolishly though I could make it to work before suffering any ill effects. I had to abandon the bus and head to closest toilet. So in my effort to save time, I ended up having to make several detours on the way into the office and had to walk the whole distance anyway.

To continue on the theme of bad days, I was due to have a meeting this morning and rescheduled things accordingly. Imagine my frustration when people decide to not turn up with no emails, no phone calls, nothing. A small silver lining though - while it is turning out to be 'one of those days', it's in reality 'one of those half days'. The rest of the morning has been filled with updating all my lab books and continuing with some experimental design until it's time to leave. I also forgot some breakfast but have a sneaky stash of bourbon creams in my drawer to keep me going ;)

Today is the day I'm due to start my medication. I have the BUPA nurse coming to visit me this afternoon (in less than 3 hours' time as I type this) to show me how to inject myself with the medication and go over any other particulars that might be necessary. In preparation for the appointment, I was told to take my medication out of the fridge half an hour early to bring it to room temperature. The fluid is very gloopy and will not flow well if cold.

Wish me luck :) Expect another post shortly after my appointment!
